My Thoughts...Straight Out of the Box!

06 August 2007

Goodbye and Hello

Well my time in Melbourne has come to an end and before I pack up my computer I thought I'd write this little post...

I have been in Melbourne only 18 months and during that time I have thankfully had the time (praise God) to complete most of my Master of Theology course which was the reason I came here (I return home with enough essays and study to keep me busy for the next year). I have worked many enjoyable shifts at the Central Catholic Bookshop and made many good friends - see Ann, I will miss you all ;). I have also made many good friends at the John Paul II Institute and been immersed in the Catholic Culture of Melbourne which has been great. (In the last 6 weeks I have been up to my eyeballs in intensive lectures and work so I must apologise for my complete slackness in keeping in contact with people).

Initially it was very hard to move to this new place not knowing anybody but now I leave having made many new friends and knowing I will probably miss the life I have enjoyed in the Southern state. I think when I am back in Sydney I will begin to appreciate the blessing God gave me in allowing me to be here and study and work for 18 months. Now speaking from experience I can say I do actually believe that Melbourne is the most glorious city if it came down to the Melbourne/Sydney debate but my home and my family is in Sydney and that is where I feel called to be. I will look very much forward to returning to Melbourne and Victoria and exploring all the places I have missed (which is pretty much anything outside the CBD). Thank you to all the wonderful people I have met. I look forward to keeping in contact. God Bless.

To all my family and friends in Sydney I look forward to coming home (and to the warmer weather). There is something about 'home' that even when there is nothing on there is always the comfort of being where you know. The comfort of sitting around your house with your family or going out to coffee with old school friends (out of school 10 years this year ahhh). I look forward to catching up with you all again in time.

As I mentioned I return home with a lot of essays still to do and in fact have a course to begin in Sydney this Friday as part of my studies, so it has certainly not stopped yet. I will hope to continue working part time as I finish everything and next year I will get to my thesis which will finish off this Master of Theology specialising in Marriage and the Family. My desire is to educate in this field, perhaps primarily in the parish/diocesan level but eventually my real desire is to educate future teachers on the beauty and richness of God's plan for life and love and sexulity, a plan that is unfortunately misunderstood by so many Catholic today not to mention the rest of the world (hopefully by then I'll be living in a marriage with a family myself!) So it is a very exciting time, I am looking forward to what God has in store for my life and the direction it will move. I am also looking forward to a good rest when I get home and some time to work on my very undermaintained blog.

Ok well that about sums up my little farewell and hello post. Blessings to you all :)
