So you can really get a feel of where I am coming from here is a very brief tour of World Youth Day headquarters and my little pod up on level 12 with the liturgy gang.
When my 6.57 train (or the 7.27 if I just couldn't do the early train) arrives in the city and I walk to the building, this is what greets me...the Polding Centre...
The Polding Centre contains most of the agencies and offices for the Archdiocese of Sydney. Names after the first Archbishop of Sydney, the Polding Centre is a very comfortable place to work. Slowly but surely World Youth Day has taken over every free space that existed here. In fact they built a special compound on what was the level five outdoor break out area which now houses most of the operations team. I was there for a while but we thankfully had to move. Some call it the terrace suites which others call it the bunker, and I affectionately refer to it as the chicken coup! The ceiling is very low and it has that portable building feel.
When I began I was up on the floor with the WYD directors and communications staff, then spent a short stay in the chicken coup but now we subsist on level 12 which was once the Catholic Mission office (not sure if we kicked them out of they moved but here we are none the less. I am very pleased to have a ceiling that is higher that 6 feet even though my window does not offer the bext view of the city...
I am hoping between now and July that brick building will collapse but that may be a prayer in vain.
My little pod is comfortable though, with my plant and surrounding papers...
If you are savy you might just see my red WYD mug in front of the computer for my daily chai tea and toas....mmmm (the toast goes on a plate though).
As I mentioned we moved into the old Catholic Mission office and someone rather cleverly made the place our own by the addition of a word to the Catholic Mission sign...I wouldn't say our task is impossible but short of organising the second coming it is the biggest thing we will probably do in this life time.
